I came across this view when walking through Peel on the Isle of Man. It was a bright, sunny day and this door cried out be captured in watercolour. I took a photo and painted it in my studio at home.

This is an old factory building on the riverbank on the outskirts of Hull. Although no longer in use and a little dilapidated, there’s often beauty to be found in these old industrial buildings. The reflections in the river add much to the scene.

Two years ago, I set about the challenge of painting every cathedral in England. I’m taking my time, partly because I’ve done more than one painting of several of the cathedrals, including Durham Cathedral, seen here. I sang in the choir at Durham as a boy🌿✨
I loved capturing the intricate details of this majestic building surrounded by lush greenery. (It’s the view seen from the train). I tried to create a tranquil atmosphere that I hope brings a sense of peace to your day. 🎨

This is the third painting I've done of this window at Lincoln Cathedral and the smallest.
My art practice is mostly about seeking to find things that I might simply walk past, but which, when pausing and looking, I find beautiful. This window is an example.

This watercolour is a special place for me. It's Helmsley (North Yorkshire) where I was born. My Dad was vicar of the church. I don't remember it because I was only 3 yrs old when we (Mum, sister & 3 brothers) left for a parish deeper in the North Yorkshire. Moors - Danby. Perhaps I should do a watercolour of there next. It's a beautiful part of Yorkshire! 🙂

I love painting windows! As I paint, I sometimes wonder what stories there are to tell of life behind them.
These are cottages in Staithes. It was the composition and colour that also appealed to me.

Staithes is a beautiful coastal village in North Yorkshire. Like Robin Hood's Bay, there is a steep hill down to the beach! The reference photo for this painting was taken on the beach when the tide was out!

When I first visited the town of Todmorden in West Yorkshire, as I walked through the town, I came across this building with rusty metal stairs. There weren't any broken windows or flowers on the land in front - that's just artistic license! However, I was drawn to what seemed like a quiet, overlooked moment of urban decay and resilience.

This is Langness Lighthouse in the south of the Isle of Man. It’s a beautiful, quiet part of the island. The white buildings around the lighthouse are holiday cottages. If you want to get away from the hustle & bustle of daily life, in one of the most beautiful places in the British Isles, this is the place for you.

In 2024 I took on the challenge of painting all of the Anglican cathedrals in England and the Isle of Man. There are 43. This painting of Ely is the 8th I’ve completed.

This Victorian terrace is a couple of minutes walk from my home. When I took the reference photo I’d planned to remove the tree in the painting. However, taking a second look made me realise that i quite like it!

Hall Garth Park (5 mins walk from my home) is a gem in the centre of Hornsea. This view of the back of the houses on Eastgate caught my eye. Shapes, shadows and colours - great for the artist!

In March 2025 I made a trip to Dubai to visit my son & family who now live there. As part of the trip, we went on a boat trip along the river which runs alongside a old part of the city. I found the buildings fascinating, especially when reflected in the water.
