Cityscape, Rome

This painting, " Cityscape, Rome", is based on a photo I took on a trip to Rome — I was fascinated by the layered shapes and soft light that lingered on the buildings.

Using watercolor washes with ink accents, I wanted to emphasize the geometric planes and gentle contrasts to convey a quiet urban rhythm. The rich mix of shapes and colours made it a challenge to paint but it was fun to do.
