Glasgow flats
48 x 32cm (unframed)
£165

On a trip to Glasgow, as I wandered around the city, I caught sight of these flats.  The whole scene unexpectedly became one that called out to be painted. There was something immediate about the composition and colours that appealed to me.

Yellow house, Peel
(Isle of Man)
48 x 34cm (unframed)
£165

Peel, on the west coast of the Isle of Man, is a fascinating place. Much of it is made up of quirky cottages in narrow terraced streets.

It was the steps at the side of this yellow house that caught my attention. The white cottage and hills in the background seemed to complete the scene.

Red door, Peel
(Isle of Man)
48 x 34cm (unframed)
£165

I love capturing sunlight on buildings, and when I saw this street (and red door!) in Peel, on the west coast of the Isle of Man, I just had to paint it.

I found painting the STOP sign upside down a bigger challenge than expected. However, I'm pleased with the result!

Bankside building
(Hull)
54 x 33cm (unframed)
£175

Since moving to Hornsea on the East coast of Yorkshire, I've visited the large industrial estate on the outskirts of Hull a number of times to take reference photos for paintings.

I find this building on the banks of the river full of interest, so I produced this painting.

Victoria Rd. Hornsea
(Hornsea)
32 x 42cm (unframed)

£165

This row of houses is only a few hundred yards from where I live. It's a Victorian terrace near the seafront in Hornsea.

I often find painting sections of houses is more interesting than painting the whole.

I said, 'An ice cream' not
'a nice scream'

 35 x 54cm (unframed)
£175

Seagulls are rather like Marmite. We love them or we hate them.  I often find them quite amusing, and as I wander along the seafront near my home, I imagine them chatting to one another. The title of this painting is a prime example.

Robin Hoods Bay25f1.jpg
Robin Hood's Bay
(N. Yorks.)
35 x 53cm (unframed)

£225

I've made many a visit to the lovely coastal village of Robin Hood's Bay. On my last visit I bought fish & chips and sat on a bench from where I took the reference photo for this painting! I' like to live in this cottage (in the summer!!).

Staithes (N. Yorks.)
36 x 46cm (unframed)

£175

Staithes is another beautiful coastal village in North Yorkshire. Like Robin Hood's Bay there is a steep hill down to the beach! The reference photo for this painting was taken on the beach when the tide was out!

Peel (Isle of Man)
29 x 42cm (unframed)
£175 â€‹

Two years ago, I set out to paint all the cathedrals in England, and having lived on the Isle of Man for 16 years, I also had to include the island. This is St German's Cathedral sitting above the quirky streets of Peel.

Neighbours24f1.jpg
'Neighbours'
Robin Hood's Bay
(N. Yorks.)
31 x 45cm (unframed)

£175

These doors are found in Robin Hood's Bay.  I came across them on my latest visit. The fact that the doors are so close together prompted me to give the painting the title 'Neighbours'.

Rooftops at
Robin Hood's Bay
(N. Yorks.)
30 x 30cm (unframed)

£125

I love painting shadows. They are often the last aspect I add when painting. So often, they are what brings the painting to life. I'm sometimes asked, 'How do you paint sunlight?' My reply is usually, 'I don't. I paint shadows, and the contrast shows light.

Crail Harbour
(East Fife, Scotland)
32 x 42cm (unframed)
£175 â€‹

For several years, I visited the Pittenweem Art Festival in East Fife, Scotland.  A few miles up the road is Crail. A beautiful location with an attractive harbour.

Sea view from Derbyhaven
(Isle of Man)
33 x 53cm (unframed)

£155

Derbyhaven is a small community in the south of the Isle of Man. Many of the houses there are white. They look particularly bright when the sun is shining.
